Google’s Adwords tool is one of the best way to get some quick targeted traffic to a website, and most of the companies do run an Adwords campaign for their websites. Even though a bit expensive, Adwords would help you to get a targeted website traffic instantly which may help in getting better conversions.
Google Analytics is one of the best free tool for tracking the website tracking and most of the webmasters implement it on their websites. Google Analytics gives a better insight into the quality and relevancy of the traffic that is getting onto a particular website.
It is always better to use the same Google account for both the Adwords and Analytics for a particular website. In some cases website owners end up having different Google accounts for Adwords and Analytics and this may not help them to better understand their online marketing activities and campaign.
One of the best way to get an idea about the traffic coming to the website while using different Google accounts for Adwords and Analytics, is to use the destination URL Auto tagging feature of Adwords. By auto tagging your Landing Page in Adwords, you would be able to get the details of the visits of that page through Google Analytics. There is also the option to offer manual URL tagging, but here we are just dealing with the Auto tagging part. While Auto tagging, a particular parameter containing some IDs are appended to the end of the landing page URL.
Below given are the steps required to enable Destination URL Auto Tagging in Adwords
1) Sign in to your AdWords account
2) Click on the link “Preferences” under the “My Account” tab on the Adwords dashboard.
3) In the “Preferences” page, you can see a section named “Tracking“, where you need to click the link named “Edit”.
4) Enable “Destination URL Auto-tagging” by selecting the checkbox given.
5) Finally click the button ‘Save changes.’
Now you have enabled Auto Tagging for the landing pages that you have used in your Adwords, and this would shortly be reflected in your Google Analytics report.
