How to Search for Results From a Particular File Type in Search Engines

We all use Google or some other search engines to search for information on the internet. The search engines such as Google helps you to retrieve any type of information that are available on the net and hence Google has become one of the inevitable part for those who uses the internet more frequently.

Here I am talking about a simple way to search for results from a particular file type of file extension in major search engines. This is a simple thing but most people rarely uses this. To search for results from a particular file type in Google we can use the term filtype to get results from a particular file type.

For Example if you want to search for Hollywood Actors and you are just searching for results that are in pdf files, then you can refine your search as Hollywood Actors filetype:pdf. This will help you to get a results of the list of Hollywood Actors that are in .pdf format. If you want to get the results which are in .html file format then you can refine your search parameter as Hollywood Actors  filetype:html.

The same works for Bing search engine and if you need to search for the above term with pdf extension,  you just need to enter Hollywood Actors  filetype:pdf. Same is the case if you need to search for other file extensions and you just need to replace the file extension type that comes after the term “filetype“.

It is slight different in Yahoo and you need to avail the help of a new search function “originurlextension“. For example if you want the to the same search as above you need to type Hollywood Actors originurlextension:pdf. Now you will get a list of results which are in .PDF formats.
