10 Reasons Behind Having High Bounce Rate for Your Website

Bounce rate is something serious that most of the webmasters are concerned about while viewing their web analytics stats. A high bounce rate in the web analytics report for a website means that the visitors are not at all interested in the website content and immediately leave the page soon after entering the website. This may happen due to various factors and if your website’s bounce rate is high, then you need to take it seriously and identify the areas where you can work on so as to improve the bounce rate. The bounce rate clearly speaks about the quality of your website and websites having high bounce rate are considered to be of low quality.

There are various reasons for the high bounce rate your website is experiencing and most of them are common issues. Some small adjustments can easily boost up your bounce rate and most of us fail to identify what these small adjustments really are. 1) Unwanted Pop Ups
Many of us come up with promotional pop up on our web pages hoping to capture leads easily through various email marketing and  newsletter registration forms. There are various landing pages that appear on search results for irrelevant keywords and this may happen due to the discrepancies in the optimization of those pages. Seeing an irrelevant landing page for user search queries, surely results in the user leaving the page without moving further.

If you are targeting your website or webpage on an irrelevant audience, your website would not be getting any decent page visits as most of the visitors would leave without visiting any other pages other than the landing pages. By not allowing the links to open in an external window, we are prompting the visitors to leave our webpage without returning back.

8) Music on the website
There are many website which provides music upon the loading of a webpage and many of us do it to impress the audience. But the fact is that websites having music on its page naturally have a higher bounce rate as most of the users might not be comfortable with the music and leave the page as soon as they hear the music.

9) Streaming Videos on the Website
Streaming videos on the website might sound a good idea, but in the normal case the videos take its own time to load and the most of the visitors would not be interested in the same, resulting in an early exit from the page.

10) Non Engaging Landing Page
The well engaging landing page can always work wonders and it also helps to keep the visitors back on the web pages. If the landing page is not at all engaging and attractive then you would not be able to make the visitors stay on the page and they would soon leave the page once they find the web page less engaging.

    I have one question….is ‘Bounce rate’ affects your ranking in SERP ?
    As you said that high bounce rate indicate that your site is not having quality content or it may be other way that search engine is showing your site on top for a wrong keyword.

    Hi Sandeep, yes..high bounce rate is always a matter of concern. It is something that signals about the quality of the content and you need to make sure that the bounce rate is made down by getting quality content on your website. A website having high bounce usually do not enjoy a better SERP..
